A Cross Section of Members of HWPL in Uganda, Makerere University – Kampala Uganda

As part of our commitment to promoting environmental justice and sustainable peace, Bio Vision Africa (BiVA) joined fellow members of the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) in South Korea Commemorate 11th Anniversary of HWL World Peace Summit, and in Kampala, Uganda for a global dialogue exploring the intersection between environmental sustainability and peacebuilding. During the dialogue, BiVA presented a paper titled “Linking Environment and Peace in Uganda: Youth-Led Environmental Action for Sustainable Peace.”

The presentation, delivered at an event organized by HWPL in collaboration with the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), highlighted the increasing connection between environmental degradation and social instability in Uganda. Key challenges, including climate change, deforestation, poor waste management, and the growing scarcity of natural resources, were identified as significant contributors to inequality, displacement, and conflicts within communities. The discussion emphasized the need to address environmental challenges as an integral component of peacebuilding efforts.

BiVA underscored the critical role of young people and marginalized communities as agents of positive change and advocated for environmental stewardship as a pathway to achieving sustainable peace. The engagement aimed to: raise awareness about the link between environmental protection and peacebuilding; advocate for the integration of environmental peacebuilding approaches into national and local policy frameworks; and empower youth to lead grassroots environmental action initiatives that foster resilience, social cohesion, and sustainable development.
